Ben Hatch Zion Conservatory for Website

Our Musical Theatre School is unlike anything you have ever experienced. Rather than focus on the extra elements of theatre like scenery, costumes, and makeup, we instead focus on preparing your child in the fundamentals of singing, dancing, and acting and we strongly encourage each child to learn how to at least chord on the piano or guitar so that they can accompany themselves while singing.Zion Conservatory for the Performing Arts Rehearsal Costume

Thus we are a quadruple threat school.

To that purpose our rehearsals and performances will always feature a “base costume”. Think of these outfits and shoes as your child’s shin guards, cleats, and jerseys as if he or she were playing soccer. Since we offer a beginning (PeeWee) curriculum for children, our expectation of proper shoes and clothing are a mandatory part of our program and no child will be allowed to participate who is not dressed and ready to work at every rehearsal and performance.

The goal with each show is to have our audiences looking at the children’s faces.  To that end we have our whole cast and crew clothed in neutral black from head to toe, with a little bit of pink and white for the girls.  This creates a visually stunning, modest, and classy base for a few additional costume elements to depict specific characters.

The rehearsal wear is simple and readily available on Amazon for purchase: (You are also welcome to search at discount dance web sites or your local dance wear shop)

*You may ask why it is so important to purchase modest professional dance wear for a simple initial children’s theatre experience.  The reason why is because Capezio has produced clothing for performers for decades and use the finest materials that can stand up to the extreme movements of dancing.  Even after being laundered dozens of times, these clothes will be available to be passed down to younger siblings and/or sold to new cast members.

For rehearsals students with short hair are requested to gel hair off the forehead and those with long hair are asked to put hair in a bun.

*Please note that if you would like to save money by sewing your child’s rehearsal costume, patterns are available to help you recreate the look we require.

The Students need to be in black from head to toe with a little bit of pink for the girls.
